I bought my new 328xi in 2007 with RFTs. I got a flat the first week caused by a nail. I brought it back to the dealer who said tires are not covered and that i needed a new tire, a BMW's policy on flats. After much protesting, they agreed to plug it as it was a small puncture and did not charge me. While the punctured tire loses air and needs filling every so often, it has run over 20,000 miles, mostly highway miles. Yes, the slow leak is a pain. But here is another complaint I have about these tires; every small pothole I hit sounds and feels like the car bottomed out. Has anyone had the same experience? My older '89 325ix never had this problem.
I still have not gotten used to not having a spare.

I agree. I have had replaced 3 run flats16in on my new mini cooper in 11 months. 2 with tiny nails in and one blown out wall. They cost £140 each and the dealer is not helpful . I just don't think these tyres are robust for some reason as other tyres.

I have a 328xi/2006 and just replaced mytires at 50,000 miles. Although within the first few months of owning the car I had a flat and an awfultime trying to find a replacement, otherwise they have been fine. I also had to replace two rims which I found annoying.

I have a 2008 330d coupe with 19 alloys. Recently the run flat indicator kept coming on when there was no puncture. I took it to my dealer who told me that there was a crack in the alloy. I was very surprised at this as I had not hit a pot hole or anything that should cause this. I asked them to check if there was an impact and when they checked my car they discovered another cracked alloy. I said there was no way I was going to pay for replacng alloys that crck under normal road condtions. Bmw refused to acknowledge there was aproblem with larger alloys and run flat tyres even though I gave them evidence of two friends, one who had two cracked rear alloys on a 335i and one who had to replace two alloys on his 645i and 4 on his x5 all of which his dealer replaced under warranty as they admitted it was a problem. I am still trying to get it sorted.

I have a 2007 335i Convertible with 17,000km on the clock. I have had real hassles with run flat tyres - three replacements in the last nine months, two of which were in the last four weeks. I discovered last week that the inside rims of the rear wheels were cracked. BMW Australia have offered to replace both wheels at their cost but say all four tyres need replacement, including those only 2 and 4 weeks old. Both have their inside edge close to the rim worn I think due to contact with the wheel cracks. BMW maintain its due to lack of pressure in the tyres and want another $3,200 off me. Interestingly, they propose to replace Bridgestones with Pirellis. Can't get them for a week which is the problem I've experienced in the past. What happens if you get a puncture in the middle of the bush? Run flat tyres suck - never again.

I have a 2007 328xi with 17,000 miles and the tires have been making the loudest noise. I took the car to the dealer to be looked at and they tried getting me to replace all 4 tires at my expense with a different brand, Continental Tires. I think there is obviously a problem with the Bridgestone Run Flats and I don't think I should be responsible to pay for their replacement.

Just purchased a 328xi with flat run tires. The sensor(!) pick up on a small hole on the tire enter wall.(just like the hold in the picture shown below, almost the same place and size) I haven't had the car 24 hour. I ONLY DROVE THE CAR HOME. I took the car back to dealer for the understand of the error in the sensor(!) and for help with the problem. Althought the car is still under warranty the tires are not. Even when BMW knows that they are the only ones using these type tires and the problems that are caused by them. I was told by the car dealer that sold me the car that that the tires wasn't his problem but my. Try to get the car through inspection. This cause my car to fail inspection, due to the light on the dash for the sensor(!) about the tire. So I when back to the car lot with inspection paper work in hand. By law your car must be able to pass inspection before sold to you. I'm still dealing with the car dealer on this issue. Now I see that the issue is with BMW all the way around. Why put a low quality tire on a high profile cars. If they don't work don't use them these report have been gone on since 2005. BMW help...

My 2007 328xi coupe came with run-flats and I hate them: noisy as hell, harsh over bumps, crappy handling, bad wear (almost finished at 26K mi, which I understand is twice what some people get with them), and of course very expensive to replace. Question: In addition to going naked without a spare, what are the pros and cons of replacing them with standard tires.

Well, this has nothing to do with BMW. Run Flat tires are notorious for this crap. In a nut shell they suck. I had the same problem with a Toyota Sienna. Although Toyota owned up to the problem and agreed to compensate me for the yearly tire replacements for about 4 years. Then I was on my own. At that time I opted to put regular tires on and buy a doughnut for emergency. Really not a big deal. I am posting here because I am a BMW owner. I have owned many BMW's and currently own a 2008 528Xi which I am considering replacing with a 128i. The run flats concern me, but I will probably put regular tires on and get a doughnut when the first set needs replacement. I am figuring it into the price of the car. Honestly you have to research every aspect of a car before you buy it. I certainly learned my lesson. It's really the run flat tire manufacturers that we should have a problem with, not the auto mfg's. It's not practical to replace tires every year to year and a half. These tires should be banned until the mfg's figure out a way to make them last longer.

Anonymous 11-20-10. I have a 2010 750i with Run Flat tires and it is almost impossible to locate a tire for replacement. They are not around and I had to purchase a regular $275.00 tire just to get me back home. The BMW dealer does not have the tire nor could they locate one. I had to settle for a different Run Flat tire and waited three days for this odd ball tire. Now will have three of one kind and one of another. Do not listen to any salesperson. This is a major issue. Sad knowing you pay $85K for a car and cannot take a trip due that you have no spare nor can the tires on the vehicle be found for a replacement. I have purchased four BMW's in the past and this is the end. BMW should hide their face in shame for such a disgusting position they have created.

I have a 2010 335d with RFT. So far I have 18.5k miles and the tires seem to be working just fine. Wear seems to be quite good, no where near needing to be replaced yet. They are a bit hard but then I have the sport pkg so expect that and enjoy feeling the road. Never had a flat but see plenty of late model cars without RFT on the side of the road waiting for a service truck to help them out!

Run flats suck! Vista BMW called me early to do a 10k mile service. When I got the car back it had a front end vibration. I brought the car back and was told it was a toe in problem and to just wait to replace the tires! Now at a 20k brake fluid service it is $2,500 plus tax for 4 new tires and alignment!!
The coffee machine is broken and I'm waiting 3 hours. If I replace with non run flat I won't have a spare!

I had a problem over this Labor Day Holiday with nail in my Run Flat tire.I was far from home and options were limited.
My vacation was ruined because no one near by had the tire in stock. BWM wanted me to be towed locally and wait until Tuesday when a tire could be ordered. What was I supposed to do? If i had regular tires I could have had the tire changed and the damaged one plugged and all resolved very simply. I hate these tires and resent being forced to have them on my car but when I ordered my car there was no option. i would swap them all out for regular tires but i have a leased car and need to return it with the run flats. I still may do that since i hate the ride (and the engineer(s) who came up with this dumb idea). i drive on road where I am going to get flats. It's how the road are in and around NYC. I have been a loyal loving BMW fan but these tires are a mistake. BMW are you listening? Get rid of them or at lease give us a choice. LCL

Decided to go with 4 regular tires when a non flat went out outside Yosemite. Cost for 4 tires installed were less than two new non flat (which they recommended two instead of replacing bad). All tires had 20,000 miles which I was happy with but not ready to go for four new every 20,000 miles. I now have spare air and AAA to depend on. BTW - BMW was wonderful about all of this situation. I agree RFT Bridgestone is what is on my car & they suck ass. 1 tire had a leak in it to find out that there was a defect with the stem valve, another had dry rot(back driver tire) so it was defective & BMW picked up the cost of that one, the two front ones just got replaced due to nails in them(thank god I have the Assurance Edge Warranty), now the right rear needs replaced again as it has unusual wear & tear on it for a tire that was replaced 1yr ago, BMW service manager would not replace it as a defective tire,, I mean really the other one was, tires don't get unsual wear & tear at 15,000 to 17,000 miles, I aksed for them to at least come half way on the cost which is $350 told no, so I am calling BMW North Amnerica to see what they can do

I have a 2007 E90 with 18" M (193) rims. With Runflat tyres i have sustained severe damage to the rims - and so far i have replaced three rims once and one rim twice. Not only that but the runflat tyres give terrible handling and large amounts of road noise.
BMW Australia are no help, in fact they are considerably rude and unwilling to even acknowledge my concerns regarding runflat tyres. I have now switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres and have gained better handling, fuel economy (who would have thought?) and also greatly reduced road noise - as well as saving $200 per corner when i replace the tyres.
The only thing missing is a spare tyre, jack and tyre iron - which BMW do not provide space for. Absolutely hopeless. Never again!

The dealer called to ask me if I wanted to change and showed me a Z4 23iM sport which I test drove, it was ok but tramlined like mad. I took it back to the dealer thinking there must be a suspension problem and that said the suspesnion looks great. I can only assume the noise and poorer than expected handling is due to the terrible Bridgestone Turanzas run flats they tried to convince me are wonderful. I plsn to attempt to replace these terrible tires with ContiExtremeContacts at my own expense. The dealer told me I could not mount these tires on the existing rims, and that they would only accomodate another set of run flats. this seems not possible. Two questions:
1)Everything I hear about RFTs is that they are excessly noisy and harsh riding. I have no experience with low-profile tires. Are these negative issues systemic to the BMW RFTs or low-profile tires in general? I would think the simple fact that they are low-profile would contribute to a lot of the complaints.
2)If I go to 16" wheels, with 205/55/16 non-RFTs tires, will this cause any issues with any of the warranties? Please only respond if you know for sure. (I know people will say there might be handling negatives, but I am not an overly aggressive driver and a small difference in handling will not disturb me.)

I HATE my runflats on my BMW 320 converible. Bought it new in June 2008, now nearly 40,000 miles and need a 3rd set. Anyone - how much better is the ride with conventional tyres? I can't bear the snaking any more! Chris UK.

Hi all, I recently purchased a 2006 325i WITHOUT runflats. It has regular tubeless radials. This model DOES NOT have the Sports Package suspension. My main concern/question is will running conventional radials damage/cause premature wear of suspension components? Adjustments?

BMW is really stupid in what they do with these tires. They also make it worse on the X5 "Sports" option - all good looks but the most horrible ride possible. They have 20 inch rims, low profile tires and the, just to make matters even worse, they just HAVE to fit these hated run flats. The car actually has a spare wheel, so it is completely unnecessary. The X5 is overpriced and best avoided, but if you really have to buy the damn thing then at least make sure you don;t fall for the low profile rims, it is bad enough as it is with the run flats without making it worse by going low profile.
